Finally, i’ve been trying to articulate my thoughts on the oscars but couldn’t quite get it right, luckily Stu Maschwitz provides a dose of excellent logic on why people should at the very least stop complaining about it.
Catch 22 is pure genius, yeah it’s sometimes plodding, and generally not the easiest thing to slog through, but its brilliance lies buried in the details and the little scenes here and there. You have to be a bit off in the head to love it so unconditionally like i do, but yeah, who isn’t.
Squirrel seeks Chipmunk is a weird book, i’ve been sampling from it, a bit here and there, like a box of chocolates, a box of twisted, delightful chocolates.
The Girl Who Played With Fire is… well, not exactly what i was expecting. I loved the David Fincher dragon tat movie so naturally i wanted to know how the story goes on, but let me tell you my peeps, the film is much better, the book is a page turner all right, but it’s poorly written, full of weird asides about things you don’t really wanna know, like Lisbeth Salander’s caribbean vacation or Kalle Blomqvist is banging Harriet fucking Vanger now, think about it, how sick in the head you have to be to even contemplate hitting that, Blomqvist you sick fuck, am i right?
Warlord is… well i’m not gonna pretend i’m above reading trashy airport novels, because i’m not, and honestly when by page ten a book has estabilished prince Charles (yeah that one) as one of the main characters in a spy / action thriller i was kinda curious to know more, what do you know, maybe his royal fucking highness would bust out some glocks in act three because that’s how he rolls, instead i got an heavy handed tea party cuckoo propaganda pamphlet badly disguised as estabilishing the setting and stopped reading on the spot, so i guess we’ll never know.
Look, i wanna read about dudes missionimpossibling terrorists and saving the world, but it’s pretend, fucking fiction, don’t write it like it’s something that 'ought' to be done, that makes you look like a moron.
Anything by Nick Harkaway is just the best, never a disappointment, always surprising, not a gripe whatsoever, don’t know how he does it.
