2010 Movie Log #66 - Alien (1979, Ridley Scott)
This is my favorite of the alien movies, always been, but i hadn’t seen it in years and was actually incredibly surprised to see how well it holds up to 2010 standards in terms of visuals.
Set design and lighting are top notch, everything looks so detailed, lived in and absolutely believable, and those anamorphic lens flare streaks you nowadays see everywhere (star trek being the worst offender) are actually there for a reason, being that everything is fucking dark as hell and everybody has to carry flashlights just to see a damn thing.
And the pacing is just right, slow and creepy at first, fast and frantic during the final rush, never letting go, getting wisely to the end before it runs out of juice.
And, further notice, is this the one movie to have a strong, not token, multilayered female lead? Maybe so, maybe no, but still pretty close.
